There is some late effort in the finish that sees him fall to the first base side a little and there is a mild elbow bend at times, but the delivery is pretty clean otherwise. Hes not as projectable as Smith, and hell have to show in the spring that his stuff will hold up in longer outings as a starter, but its pretty electric. Jacob Gonzalez, SS, Mississippi 6. While the Baseball Factory All-Star Classic and Perfect Games World Wood Bat Association World Championship will take place this fall, scouts have seen enough to get a feel for this next Drafts high school class. He has very good feel of all four pitches and is more than willing to sequence backwards. Whether he ends up at second base, shortstop or anywhere else on the diamond, Neto has a pretty complete profile that will appeal to teams. He's followed by IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) outfielder Elijah Green, who has the highest ceiling in this Draft; Mays HS (Atlanta) second baseman Termarr Johnson, the best pure prep hitter in recent memory; and Stillwater (Okla.) HS shortstop Jackson Holliday, who has solid to plus tools across the board. He did, however, return and pitch for half the season in a more limited role. 1. Brooks Lee, Jacob Berry, Jace Jung, Kevin Parada . Still, hes projectable at 6-foot-4, with a fastball easily in the mid 90s and a good breaking ball. Hes got an inconsistent slider that can be wicked at its best, though in most cases it's squarely average, generally in the low-80s. His delivery is very hitchy with a short arm 3/4 slot with late effort, but there is life in that quick arm and the ball really jumps out of his hand. Hes also got a curveball in the mid-70s to round out a full arsenal. He has elite athleticism that could see plus tools in speed, arm, and in the field, he is as projectable as it gets. The important secondary offering of his is the gyro slider which is a heavier velo and lighter two-plane break that plays really well off his fastball. Braden Holcomb, 3B, Foundation Academy (FL) The most common physical comp you are going to see is Brady House, and it makes sense, but the game isnt at that level. 2. He has very good bat control and speed to go with a good eye at the plate that allows him to barrel up the ball with frequency and displays more pop than the body suggests. Right-Handed Pitcher, Orchard Lake St. Marys. Hughes has two breaking balls, whether by design or accident, that melt together. By the time his senior season is over, Kilen might be getting drafted in the 2022 MLB Draft. The ball does jump and the power is currently average, but there is still plenty of projection in the body and the sync between his hips firing and his hands suggest above average future power if not plus. The fastball is, you guessed it, a runner sitting 91-95 that plays up with the arm action and will probably add velo to his long projectable frame. He's also a power-hitting 3B, and there are scouts who believe he's a legitimate offensive prospect, though most believe the upside on the mound is too great. Hes not a lumbering guy in the field, and the speed could potentially play in left field at the next level, or a team could give him a shot at third base, a position he's hardly played at all in college. 1 - CBSSports.com Free Agency Tracker Power Rankings MLB Schedule MLB draft. 8. At the plate, he is a polished hitter with a plus hit tool and a line drive swing that sees the ball really jump. His exit velos are among the best in the entire country. He has a disciplined eye at the plate that should translate to pro ball well. He has a quality slider sitting 78-80 with some good 2 plane action with a bump in the middle of it rather than big movement. 11. There are some exciting tools at the top, with a general consensus around a top four, three of them from Georgia: Termarr Johnson, Elijah Green (from Florida), Dylan Lesko (the one pitcher in this quartet) and Druw Jones. There is some length to his swing, so hell have to prove he can hit, but he has the skills to be an exciting up-the-middle player. Walker Jenkins, OF, South Brunswick (N.C.) HS 8. Andrew Dutkanych presents an ideal starting pitcher frame with broad shoulders and tons of projection remaining. One of the most exciting players in the country, Green is a do-it-all, powder-keg package of explosivity and bottled energy on the diamond. Its a strong, athletic 6-foot-3 build with broad shoulders and and long levers. Noble Meyer, RHP, Jesuit HS (OR) Meyer has a loose low 3/4 slot delivery with some long actions to go with his long body that helps his elite stuff play even higher. Schultz spins a 91-93 mph fastball and a mid-70s slider that both have plenty of promise. He can really drive the ball thanks to his quick hands and healthy hacks, which again lead to swing and miss, but the power is real. Hes got extremely strong hands that help him manipulate the barrel and punish balls deep in the zone with authority. The ball really jumps off the bat thanks to his quick bat with a short swing to the zone. Elijah Green has improved this spring. Beck is a big, strong, physical corner outfielder with immense raw power in his bat. Jones is the sone of Andruw Jones, the all-world defender, and the defensive skills have been passed down. Gavin Turley, OF, Hamilton HS, Chandler, Ariz.30. He has some of the more impressive bat-to-ball skills in the high school class with power projection coming. This. Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee 3. Green and Holliday also come from notable athletic connections. Fastball will get up to 96 with serious deception and life. Caden Dana, RHP, Don Bosco Prep HS, Ramsey, N.J.48. There's some real funk coming from a low, short-arm vertical release, similar to Max Scherzer's release. 36. Addison Barger and Damiano Palmegiani Blue Jays 3B of the Future? 43. Dutkanych has the talent and upside to become the first prep righty off the board. 4. He will get greedy at times and pull off the ball, but he typically stays closed and mashes. Brock Porter, RHP, St. Mary Prep, Orchard Lake, Mich. Most high school pitchers who throw 95-97 mph havent really spent much time yet worrying about a changeup. It could even end up being a legacy pick of sorts. Gasparino took some massive steps forward in the summer and looks to do so again come the spring with an always loaded Harvard-Westlake team. Rocker has yet to pitch anywhere this spring. The ball really jumps although he can pull off the ball with less than two strikes, he goes from a mild step swing to a no step swing with two strikes and really battles. 1 for the first time in 18 months. The MLB draft is a bewildering blend of college prospects and high school prospects, present ability weighed against future projection, taking the best player available or spreading your bonus . A new year, a new board and new ranks. 2022-23 UPPER DECK SERIES 1 CENTRE OF ATTENTION U PICK FROMLIST. Though Schultz's and Phillips' first-round aspirations have been dashed, Lesko still should factor into the first 30 selections. 0. Quality crops of high school and college position players and a stunning number of sidelined pitching prospects could lead to a first round of the Draft that's much more one-sided than usual. His fastball velocity has been 89-91 MPH and has touched 94 with serious life. Travis Sykora, RHP, Round Rock HS (TX) At 66 and 220 lbs. He burst onto the scene in 2021, slashing .386/.508/.723 with six homers and seven stolen bases in just 26 games. A second baseman now, Jung could probably move to third base at the next level. The consensus, however, is plus raw power that he's tapping into already. Its a stress-free operation with very little effort and seamless fluidity. Its got the makings of a legit double-plus weapon. His fastball sits 93-95 but gets up to 97 with good heavy arm side run to it to go with a late two-plane slider that sits 84-87. If he does, the arm is more than enough to play in right and could even be plus there. The ball absolutely flies off the bat and has plus plus power potential from a left handed swing that has a good low hand load and real bat speed. Its a reasonably strong and deep class starting day two. "The hitters will go high," a scouting official with a National League team said. Jayson Jones, 3B, Braswell HS, Little Elm, TexasJones has some of the best bat speed and power in the high school class. He has a slurvy breaking ball with massive spin rates, as well as a slider in the mid-to-high 70's and a good fading change-up in the low-80's. Porter continues to show improved command and control as the body matures. His best secondary offering is a slider that is best at the 85-87 range with late two plane break. He won the prestigious 2018 Under Armour All-America . Smith might have been more impressive last summer as an underclassman, but he still showed off a fastball that touched 95-96 mph at times (though he sat more in the low-90s) and an 80-mph breaking ball, missing bats with both. Despite being a one-knee blocker, he does so quick enough that he stays square on the ball and doesnt have the passed ball risk that often comes with that setup. That said, he does pull off the ball too much at times and can get beat on the outer half. Nazier Mule, RHP/SS, Passaic County Tech HS, Wayne, N.J.Mule has one of the best arms in the class. 19. 28. In the days leading up to the draft, MaxPreps will look at high school players who could be selected in the first few rounds at each position. Noelvi Marte (SS - SEA) Picking this #1 overall slot was more difficult than I anticipated. Hayden Murphy, RHP, Tiftarea Academy, Chula, Ga.The best is likely yet to come for Murphy. Paul Skenes, RHP, LSU 5. Druw isnt his dad in center, but hes still one of the best defenders in the class. As a pitcher, hes already touching 98-99 mph, and his slider pairs extremely well with that massive fastball. Virginia Tech isnt the kind of school you would expect to produce a potential first-round talent, but its hard to ignore what Gavin Cross brings to the table. The last frontier for evaluators is seeing Jones sync up his upper and lower half with more consistency in-game, something hes shown remarkable improvement on since last summer. He has a shot to be a plus center fielder, and we havent even gotten into the bat yet. He has a massive arm, although he can get too confident in it and make plays closer than they need to be, and absolutely demolishes baseballs. Hes also got enough speed to be given some credit on the base paths too. His stuff is legit and the fact he is a 65 lefty only makes it that much more intriguing a package. He best projects into a corner where his above average arm, length and wheels can best be optimized. High school hurlers haven't gone unscathed either. Collier is a below average runner, though his money will be made with the bat and with his throwing arm. Theres plenty of raw power in his left-handed swing, too -- he won the Perfect Game All-American Classic home run derby -- with the only questions coming about his defensive home. Right now, hes a skinny corner outfielder without the present power expected out of a left or right fielder. On the bases he has the speed to stretch a double into a triple and makes great reads on a ball in the dirt to move up a bag. Andruw Jones kid is athletic and tooled up, with no major weaknesses. Ferris has a long, yet relatively clean arm action and has plenty of projection on his frame to add strength and velocity. Jackson Ferris, LHP, IMG Academy, Bradenton, Fla.Scouts will get a chance to see several of the top prospects in the class by taking a trip to IMG Academy. Yet another toolsy high school outfielder, one who also has the chance to have five above-average or plus tools when all is said and done. A year removed from anchoring the Arizona Wildcats lineup, Berry transferred to LSU to follow Jay Johnson. The 6-foot-5 southpaw featured a fastball that was up to 96-97 mph, a high-spin breaking ball in the upper-70s that misses bats and showed glimpses of what could be a very good low-80s changeup. He may end up an elite defender like his dad thanks to terrific speed and a plus arm to go along with it. The fastball command is already pretty good and the long lovers in his low 3/4 delivery are repeatable which is more than you can say about most prep prospects with his profile. Being a left-handed pitcher that can reach back for high-90s cheese, and given his 6-foot-5-inch frame, scouts are drooling over what the final package could look like here a few years down the road. He has a fastball that sits 92-94 but has been as high as 97 with a changeup at 83 with a ton of tail and a breaking ball that is 79-81 but a bit slurvy currently. A switch-hitter who has a good baseball IQ and is a decent athlete, Tomans left-handed swing might be right behind Johnsons in terms of pure hit tool, with some wondering if he might be better suited to stick to hitting from that side only. Mikey Romero, SS, Orange (Calif.) Lutheran HS35. Rece was ranked by many media outlets as the player with the best raw power of any high school prospect in the 2019 draft.
